YOUNG AUTISTIC COMEDIAN
In June 2015, Raun and his friend, Xavier, participated at “The Comedy Club House” in Manayunk. It was their debut performance in front of a live audience. My son, 14, has been diagnosed with autism, ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome, Auditory Processing Disorder and Ellers Danos Syndrome. We need to educate society that people on the spectrum do not always act like the character, Dustin Hoffman, portrayed in the movie, “Rain Man.” Raun was able to look the audience in the eye, tell jokes and express himself, during a three minute performance. (Some Autists have trouble making eye contact). We are a growing force and many of us function in society today , undetected, and misunderstood, because of society’s lack of knowledge about autism. Society needs to look past our disabilities and learn to except, respect and acknowledge that we are part of society, as well. Enjoy the video and remember, NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF AUTISM.
